SPNB REHABILITATES BIGGEST ABANDONED LOW COST HOUSING IN SELANGOR

Ijok, Selangor, November 21 – 2,500 low cost house buyers of Bandar Alam Perdana, Ijok in Selangor were very delighted when the construction of their houses resumed after being abandoned for seven years by the previous developer.
Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) is tasked to rehabilitate the low cost houses which are schedule for completion in the middle of 2011 at an estimated construction cost of RM104 million.
The good news was conveyed during a ceremony held at the project’s site with the attendance of house buyers. Second Finance Minister, Y.B. Dato’ Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah also was present and delivered his keynote address to honor the event. Also present were Chairman of SPNB; Y.B. Senator Dato’ Azian Osman and Managing Director; Prof. Dr. Sr. Kamarul Rashdan Salleh and other distinguished guests.
The mix development of Bandar Alam Perdana consists of 3,819 units houses, sited on 393 acres of land. The construction had started in May 2000 and was abandoned later in December 2002, the same year the project should have been completed. Of which, 2500 units are low cost houses priced at RM35,000 The project which was ninety percent sold stalled at 20 to 65 percent.
According to the Chairman of SPNB; Y.B. Senator Dato’ Azian Osman, SPNB had started meeting the house buyers for their consent since May 2007. SPNB was committed to undertake and handover the projects without loading any further cost to house buyers.
SPNB was assigned by the Ministry of Finance under supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to undertake the abandoned housing projects in March 2001 with initial fund coming from Tabung Perumahan Projek Terbengkalai (TPPT). So far, a total of RM730 million was allocated to undertake abandoned housing projects throughout the nation.
To date, 75 abandoned housing projects (23,185 units) have been revived by SPNB valued at RM433 million. Of which, 12 projects (3,376 units) are in Selangor such as Taman Dalma in Semenyih, Taman Lingkaran Nur in Cheras, Bandar Pinggiran Subang in Shah Alam and currently SPNB is also rehabilitating two other projects in Selangor that is Taman Nuri Indah in Sepang and Taman Khalid Al-Walid in Shah Alam.
Aside from rehabilitation works, SPNB also builds affordable houses that are priced between RM35, 000.00 to RM200,000.00 under Rumah Mampu Milik Programme (RMM). Thus far, SPNB has completed 17 projects involving 8,853 units and 35 more projects comprising 35,583 units are under construction stage. All projects which engross a total of 2,363 acres of land are worth RM4.7 billion. In Selangor, three housing projects are open for sales namely Laguna Biru Apartment in Kuang, Alam Prima Apartment in Shah Alam and Telok Gong in Klang.
