SPNB COMPLETES ABANDONED HOUSING PROJECT IN SEREMBAN

Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, May 11 - Barisan Nasional government has successfully revived another abandoned housing project through its implementation agent; Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) thus brings to an end the 20 years of agony experienced by 257 house buyers of Taman Pelangi, Seremban.
Chairman of SPNB; Y.B Datuk Ir. Hj. Idris Hj. Haron has made an announcement during a handing over of house keys ceremony that SPNB had obtained an exemption of late payment charges for quit rent worth RM578,000 from the state Government to reduce more burdens of house buyers.
Taman Pelangi which consists of low and medium cost houses with built-up of 650 to 760 sqf were sold at RM25,000 to RM75,000. SPNB started rehabilitation works in year 2007 after the project was left abandoned in year 1990 at only 50 to 80 percent of completion. The rehabilitation work costs RM9.8 million and Certificate of Fitness for the project has been obtained on 1st March 2010.
SPNB was appointed as the implementation agent to undertake rehabilitation works of abandoned housing projects since year 2001 focusing on effort to revive and offer consultation as instructed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. To date, SPNB has revived 77 projects consists of 24,326 units of houses worth RM480 millions.
Currently, SPNB is in the midst of reviving 11 more projects under the Economic Stimulus Package worth RM381 millions through out the nation. In Negeri Sembilan, Taman Senawang Jaya and Taman Seri Bayu were among nine (9) projects that had been revived by SPNB.
SPNB also develops affordable housing projects (Rumah Mampu Milik) where by 9,046 units of such houses are completed on 335 acres of land. In Negeri Sembilan, there are there (3) projects consist of 1717 units under the said program.
As for Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMM) Program that receives overwhelming response from the people, to date SPNB has received 42,148 applications and constructed 14,468 units of houses worth RM840 millions. The applicants only pay RM150 for 26 years under the program.
